House M.D Series Finale (Everybody Dies) – Chase-Cameron, Together Again?

Not really, according to Jesse Spencer, Chase and Cameron shared a brief scene together. It’s not clear whether he meant a scene with JUST Chase and Cameron, or a scene with other characters around. Okay, seriously, what kind of event except a funeral or a wedding would bring past characters together with current characters? I don’t think anyone in the show is getting married, so ….

Other stuff about the finale:

Spencer would not elaborate on the nature of the Chase/Cameron scene, only saying that the finale as a whole “is not going to be the happiest thing in the world” yet does serve up “an appropriately satisfying ending for longtime viewers.” And specific to his alter ego — who quit in last week’s episode and is not seen tonight —  he enthused, “Chase has a final moment which I’m very, very happy that they approached.”

Game of Thrones S02E07 (A Man Without Honor) – Dear Ned, what did you teach your sons about the birds and the bees?

So … why is Joffrey the way he is? Is it really because he’s the product of incest? I don’t really buy that for two reasons. One, his brother and sister seem to have escaped the psychotic and cruelty gene, despite sharing the exact same parentage as him; and two, we’re not talking thousands of years of incest with generations after generations of brothers marrying sisters ala the Targaryens here, just Cersei and Jaime. I think being taught things like “everyone who is not us is the enemy” or “you don’t have to like the woman you’re marrying or even be nice to her, just see her once in a while to produce little princes and princesses, and sleep with whores the rest of the time if that’s what you want” or “you can do whatever you want, you are going to be king!”  by his mother is a more likely culprit. So Cersei, if you’re being punished for anything, I bet it’s more for the sin of teaching your son these things, rather than for sleeping with your brother.

Of course there’s a third possibility, Joffrey is like Damien in The Omen, is just born evil. Has anyone checked him for the 666 mark yet?

Come on Theon, don’t sell yourself short, I’m sure you’re capable of being cruel AND weak. Oh please, that’s obviously the charred bodies of Jack and Billy the boys at the farm Bran didn’t want to seek shelter in because it might endanger them (the irony!) Theon is such a blustering, ineffective screw-up I don’t believe for a moment he actually managed to capture Osha, Hodor, Bran and  Rickon. Plus, why else would the show bothered to provide all the backstory for boys we’ve never seen before? “He climbs tree better than anyone I know!” chirped Rickon. Wow, I had no idea Rickon could be chirpy, especially after the nut-bashing incident a few episodes ago.

I have no sympathy for Jon whatsoever. Serves him right for being so stupid. He’s not really a good ranger, is he? I don’t find his scenes as boring as I usually do, because Ygritte and her angry needlings of Jon is quite entertaining. Can’t say the same for Lady-not-Lady Talissa the bestest and mostest healer in the whole of Westeros. There’s something really annoying and almost vomit-inducing about the Robb-Talissa flirtation, I can’t quite put my finger on what it is, exactly. Maybe I’m just super-pissed at Robb for having time to FLIRT when his siblings are all in danger in different corners of the world.

The War of Five Kings, as Tywin said. So Joffrey, Renly, Stannis, Robb and Daenerys. Which means the people of Westeros know that Daenerys is trying to raise an army to “regain” the throne? If only they know how unsuccessful she’s been so far! Really, it should be called The War of Two Kings and a Northern Rebel. Arya, Arya, Arya, you need to act more stupid and ignorant. Dangerous territory, here. He’s a smart guy, Tywin Lannister, he’ll seduce you with his stories and recollections, making you think you’re in his confidence, but really, it’s a test, to see what you know, and who you really are.

Does it really make sense for Joffrey to marry Sansa now? In Robb and Catelyn’s view, Sansa is a hostage, it’s not going to change the way they think about Joffrey and the Lannisters even if Sansa is married to Joffrey. Why not marry off Joffrey to Margaery Tyrell (who’s so determined to be THE queen) and get the support of the Tyrells in the war instead? (That’s a little bit weird, though, because Margaery is a grown woman, and Joffrey is a sniffling, immature little brat). They can still keep Sansa as a prisoner. Sighhhh. I just don’t understand the way people plot and scheme in this show sometimes.

Jaime wants to die, right? That’s the only logical explanation I can think of for the things he did this episode. Noooo, don’t kill him Catelyn, he’s valuable bartering material!

Sherlock Series 2 Episode 2 (The Hounds of Baskerville) – “You drugged me!” Edition

John, I need some. GET ME SOME.

By “some”, Sherlock is referring to:
a) cases to investigate
b) drugs
c) …

I honestly thought he was talking about a) at first, because he was complaining about the lack of cases right before that, but apparently it’s b). (I certainly wasn’t thinking of option c), nope, not at all, sir!) I don’t think the show has specified what is his drug of choice, but judging from the concern shown by Mycroft, Watson and Mrs Hudson in the last episode, I’m guessing it’s something more hardcore than pot. It’s strange thinking of Holmes dabbling in recreational drugs, wouldn’t the lost of control bother him? It bothered him A LOT this episode, but to be fair, he was exposed to a drug that literally drives people into being homicidal maniacs. Plus, not to sound all motherly here, but DRUGS CAN DESTROY YOUR MIND! What about your beautiful, beautiful mind palace? Do you want to lose that?!

How high up the British government Mycroft is anyway? The people in the secret facility thought he came for an inspection and that he’s powerful enough they have to let “him” go anywehere inside the facility. And look at Watson, playing up his army credentials! He just “forgot” to add “retired” to the Captain John Watson, heh. It’s disturbing that even the one scientist who can be considered the good guy (willing to help Holmes and Watson find answers to the scary hound mystery) is scary. Her answer to Watson’s query about why she conducted an experiment to make a rabbit fluoresce is “why not?” Really? I thought you’d need a bit more than that, at least for funding purposes, like what is the practical application? Even ethically-challenged, top-secret government research facility must have a budget.

I think it’s actually easier for Holmes to believe that the gigantic, scary hound really exists because of the existence of the secret government research facility nearby. He’s not expected to believe in anything supernatural or other-wordly, just in people behaving badly, like any other cases he investigated. It’s probably the fear, the fact that he FELT afraid, that made him suspect something else is involved (drugs). He’s Sherlock Holmes, why would he had that strong of an emotional reaction to it otherwise?

Mrs Hudson has a suitor! A lying, already-married suitor, but still, at least she has a love life, unlike a certain someone who seems to enjoy breaking up other people’s relationships. I miss the female detective from Series 1 who was always insulting Holmes, she’s is not impressed by him and his ability at all, this time around, everyone seems to be in awe of him, even Lestrade.

When we found out that Henry is rich (nice house!), I thought the show would borrow the ending from the book (it’s all about money and inheritance), but no, just someone with something to hide eliminating witnessess. The criminal is a bit of a letdown compared to Irene Adler last episode, but then, Adler is one-of-a-kind. It’s still an excellent episode, but I can’t help feeling a bit like last season, the first episode was so extravagantly great, it’s almost impossible for the second episode to not be somewhat of a letdown. But OMG, watching that last scene, I can’t wait for Episode 3 now!

Sneak Peeks and Cast Interviews from NBC’s “Chicago Fire”

“Fiery Tempers”. The speechifying by that guy who was boxing is a little too TV-movie-of-the-week. Did he say “truck versus squad”? I guess that means Jesse Spencer’s character and Taylor Kinney’s character are leading different units within the firehouse. I thought it was weird that they’re both Lieutenants, but this would explain it. Spencer’s American accent sounds fine to me, except when he’s saying the name (“Severide”).

This from the end of the video confuses me a bit. The promo picture above made it seem like Kinney is the main character – it’s obvious that they photoshopped the picture so Kinney appeared much bigger and more prominent than the rest of the cast. But from this one, it seems like Spencer in the main character. Or maybe they’re both the main characters and NBC is just switching things up in the promo to keep both of them happy, heh. Where are the female characters, though?

“No Man Left Behind”.

Interview with Taylor Kinney. His character, Kelly Severide, is a lietenant in the Rescue Squad.

Interview with Jesse Spencer. His character, Matthew Casey is the lieutenant of Truck 81. Notice the adjectives Spencer used to describe his character – smart, capable, intelligent, effective. Compare that to Kinney’s way of describing his character – busting balls, doing things his way. I guess that’s the show’s way of highlighting the contrast between the two characters. Hopefully the show will let both grow more complex as the show goes on, and not stick to a broad brush of characterization that could so easily fall into stereotypes.

Interview with series creator, Dick Wolf. “It’s not a fire-of-the-week show.”

Spoiler for House M.D S08E21 (Holding On)

From Entertainment Weekly:

WHY THE PENULTIMATE EPISODE OF ‘HOUSE’ IS A TEAR-JERKER
For the longest time, I refused to accept that the end is near, but I’m slowly coming to peace with it. That’s, oddly, the theme I took away from the penultimate episode of House, which I checked out this week. While I’d largely like to preserve the integrity of the episode (after all, it’s one of only TWO left!), here are a few teasers for you:
– THIRTEEN is back and takes a meeting with Wilson and House separately that are both everything I could have wanted from their respective reunions. Her interaction with House is particularly poignant. (And her one-line assessment of their relationship made me laugh out loud.)
– HOUSE DOES… something for Wilson that will make you cry. But as always, everything is not as it seems. Just remember his heart is always in the right place.
– THERE’S a cliffhanger. A huge, juicy, “OMG” cliffhanger that sneaks up on you. Well, it snuck up on me anyway. All I can say is pay very close attention to everything going on in the episode.

“One line assessment” of whose relationship? House and Wilson? Or House and Thirteen? Is the spoiler referring to the line in the promo when Thirteen said “the prodigal daughter returns”? That doesn’t sound funny to me, that sounds like the writers trying to rewrite history and making Thirteen into the most important doctor who ever worked for House or something. Based on the promo pictures of House trying to choke the patient (and Park trying to stop him), I’m guessing House resorts to self-destructive behavior to get Wilson to continue chemo, and to fight harder to live. Something like “if you don’t care enough for yourself to continue fighting to live, at least do it for me, since you know I’m going to be such a mess without you”.

Thirteen is coming back as the House-Whisperer! Awesome! NOT.

Oh goody, Thirteen is the House-Whisperer.  I’m almost tempted to NOT watch the episode, for fear of damaging my screen from throwing stuff at it. “Heal his spirit”? Please pass me the bucket. Bleghhhhh bleghhhh bleghhhhh.

“Thirteen reappears really in the form an intervention almost,” reveals Laurie in the following exclusive sneak peek. The former Princeton-Plainsboro MD shares scenes not only with Dr. Grumpmeister, but his ailing better half, Wilson, as well. Knowing a thing or two about impending death, perhaps she can “heal” his spirits?

Maybe Peter Jacobson is not even joking here. If I were in his place, I’d be annoyed. You work so hard for a show, but the finale comes, and it’s all about a past character. At least Chase got a sweet, graceful goodbye, what about Taub and Foreman? Shunted to the side now that the “prodigal daughter” and the writers’ favorite is back?

Offscreen, the reunion was a little… uncomfortable. “There’s fun and camaraderie [among the cast], but really that came out when [Wilde] had left,” deadpans Peter JacobsonNow that she’s back, it makes things a little bit awkward.”

Dear House writers: Olivia Wilde is not that into you. She ditched the show to do a bunch of crappy sci-fi movies. Get over her already, and stop pissing off the few viewers you still have by turning the last two episodes  into “Thirteen, M.D”. I say this with love.
