My brother dragged hubby to see The Phantom Menace 3D, despite discouraging noises from SIL and yours truly (“it’s a crap movie in 2D, it will still be a crap movie in 3D!”). But they were excited to see the pod race and light saber battle in 3D, and were willing to endure Jar-Jar and little Anakin for that (good luck!) Their verdict? The 3D conversion is bad, not Clash-of-The-Titans bad, but nowhere near Avatar level, which, considering George Lucas’ claim that the conversion process is costing more than the cost of making the original movie, probably counts as a failure.
As far as I’m concerned though, the only good thing to come out of The Phantom Menace is this:
“Because Yoda sensed in him much fear, but Qui-Gon said now listen here, just stick it in your pointy ear, I still will teach this boy.”
“And the Jedi I admire most, met up with Darth Maul and now he’s toast, I’m still here and he’s a ghost, I guess I’ll train this boy.”
That’s Grammy-level song-writing right there!
